I love this Elisha!! So important to stop and think about our feelings before we react and just breathe. I find that when I wake up in the morning is when I set my intentions for the day, jot them down as well as going to bed every night after I've jotted down at least 5 things I am so grateful for. It's amazing how well this set's us up for the rest of the day, we start to naturally remember to Breathe :) Namaste.

This is one of my favorite mantas! I use often, and when I began I pretty much just cried through it... it's so powerful. Thanks for sharing and namaste!

This is where it gets tricky and the real meaning of words is important. My understanding (I've been practicing Bikram almost 3 years, 4x a week) is that "hurt" means achey and uncomfortable. That's ok, that is stretching and growing stronger. If there is shooting PAIN, that is different all together.

Back bending in particular is not a comfy pose - we don't do much back bending in our culture, so it's not going to feel good at first. But you work through that feeling and you learn to breathe your way through it (and learn you are so much stronger than you thought you were!!)

I'm so glad you were brave enough to try it out! As long as you listen to your body and try your best - it's a wonderful practice.
Namaste!

[...] For years I have been following this organization, watching them grow. Based in Portland, Oregon, they have over 25 partner sites, two located in New York city. Participating in this training cultivated my awareness of the core needs, behaviors and emotional boundaries that affect these struggling communities. Although I haven’t targeted these particular groups in my own personal teaching experience, my work at Open Door with under-served communities has been extremely rejuvenating and personally rewarding.
I so admire you reaching out to those who might not have access to yoga otherwise. Yoga can be so healing for everyone, but there are times it feels like too much of an exclusive club for people who look good in Lululemon pants! Thank you. For sharing and for doing what you do. Namaste.
